Is anybody working with, or keeping any of the PURE Astronotus species such as crassipinnis, orbiculatus, etc.

I once had 4 A. crassipinnis, they were too awesome!

Best be are wild caught ones.

I ment, your best bet would be wild caught ones if your looking for Pure species.

This thread is mostly to find out who has them, because I simply never hear about them, never have, in fact, other than my 4 crassipinnis which was over 10 years ago.

I have noticed that you can't seem to find just a plain oscar anymore. They are all Tigers, Reds, or some sort of Albino. They don't seem to get as big as they used to IMO.

I had a monster O about 20 years ago. Got him to at least 13" in a 75 gallon tank. He had multiple oscilli all along the base of his dorsal fin. Man what a monster. If I can find some "natural" Oscars, I want to have some again.

Not hybrid, just selective breeding.

Rapps gets in wild orbiculatus on occassion. Last year, he had W/C crassipinnis. I should have jumped on them when I had the chance.

They are pretty hard to find nowadays...
