Hello, as you may see I'm new to MFK and would like to try out Oscars as my first large fish. How big of a tank do they need? Any other questions I'll get back to you. Thanks.:)

90 gallons to have a good time, 55 gallons if you like exercise. But I only concede to the smaller size knowing you'll upgrade once the fish is longer than the tank is wide. My O is in a 125g and that's just right.

For a permanent home nothing smaller then a 75 gallon. A 90 gallon has the same foot print as a 75 just its slightly taller. Bigger is always better but look at getting a 75 rather then a 55 since these guys do grow big fast.

i have 3 tiger O's, a CK, and an albino channel cat in a 55 right now, they are all about 4" i am currently looking for atleast a 250 to get setup before they outgrow the 55 which wont be long

x2, minimum tanksize means maximum maintenance...

Hey I'm new here also. I kept my Oscar in a 55g until it got too big. Right now it's in a 100g.

Given the fact oscars are intelligent, social fish, I'd say 200 gallon for the minimum of four, and you can add some bottomdwellers to complete
the tank.

i agree that a 75 is the smallest for one oscar. but bigger is always better :)
