So I have a 120g tank right now with a ~3” tiger Oscar and an 8” TT eel. The TT is moving to my 860g when it’s done being built/cycled/etc (6 months or so). Then a rescue sailfin pleco (~14”) will be going in the 120 with the Oscar.

I am wondering what other decent sized fish could make suitable mid/top dwelling tank mates for the Oscar, the sailfin ain’t growing much/any bigger and the tank is running an FX6 (all my tanks over 100 gallons are massively over filtered). I’d love a flowerhorn but I’ve heard they’ll kill the Oscar even if he’s much larger, anything else?

IMHO the Oscar going to fill that tank once he full size, and that is not going to take long, they grow fast. with the sale fin in there i think you are good,

Don't go for a flowerhorn for sure. I wouldn't put any large or aggressive cichlids with him, Oscars are kind of big pushovers. I agree the tank is about full, but if you wanted I think you could get away with another, smaller, fish.
Better suggestions would be:
Elec. blue acara
severum
smaller crenicichla species like, belly crawler
Guianacara Gaeyi

Oscars work with almost anything, some don't some do. I have fire mouths and chocolates with mine as well as vulture cat, pim cats, Cory cats, Clown knife. The Oscars are 6 inch and have 6 of them
