Hi
I have an oscar who eats everything, along with hamburgers. Is it a bad idea to feed him ppl food? Also how often should an oscar be eating, i find myself sometimes feeding him 3 times a day n hes 7" long

Be careful, sometimes fish like an oscar or different amphilophus don't know whats good for them. I have a growing barred midas and I have to reign myself in because he will literally eat like 30 pellets at a time and the n when I get home from work he wants more. I have tried to feed him a more varied diet more often but less overall amount. For example I will toss a nightcrawler in for him and then maybe a little bit of bloodworms and then obviously pellets. I don't think these fish have access to unlimited food in the wild so its probably not great for them to feed so heavy.

i wouldnt feed too much people food, ie hamburgers, i doubt it happens that often in the wild having some burger comes floating along, and i think fish have a hard time digesting mammalian meat if im not mistaken, feed him prawns from walmart or whatever, pellets, i would just x out the people food, hot dogs and hamburgers probably not the best idea..

Don't feed people food. They can't digest a lot of it, and it can make your O sick. No reason to feed it more than once every day (small amount) or once every other day at that size.

As an aside, you say you're Quasar but your avatar is Thanos! The real (well, comic book) Quasar would not be happy with you!

Theres nothing wrong with feeding oscars very small meals 2-3 times a day especially a variety of food. Although variety does not mean human food. They dont know better they will eat and not know its bad for them. Its up to you to feed them a proper diet. Varied diet in oscars and any sa/ca cichlid is important. Pellets are a good staple food if you must fees him multiple times a day try pellets in the morning, freeze dried in the afternoon and a frozen at night. But very small amounts. You can also do this but maybe skip a day here and there. Obvious keep in mind the more often you feed your fish the more waste and possible uneaten food will end up in your tank so feeding him for growth and health might do the opposite if you don't keep up with water changes and have good water quality. Oscars are garbage disposals if you let them though. ;)
