Last night my 7" Red Tiger Oscar (pictured in Avatar Pic) decided to take a very rapid trip out oh my 135g community tank and see what the floor in my room feels like (maybe one of the other fish made him mad lol) Anyhow, the lesson learned is: Even if you take the precautions to have a heavy lid on your tank, they can still jump out when you open to feed. Bad situation, he lost a lot of his slime coat and scales, and ripped his dorsal fin pretty badly, but I'm happy to say its been about 24hrs and he seems to be just fine :)

haha i had a female betta i was conditioning for breeding do this to me, leaped out of my 10 gallon i had her in and on to the floor behind the dresser ..ack!
i didn't see or here her do this but my dog kept tweaking out and looking under the dresser , when i looked in the tank she was gone..looked all around. found her coverd in fuzz on the floor she had been there for..about 10 mins....i dumped her in thet tank...and she was fine...gahhh jumpy fish!

It's scary when they jump out and you don't notice right away. Then you find them covered in fuzz and dust. Luckily they usually bounce right back. :D

You darn right it's scary, heck having any fish jump out of your tank is. Try having a very excited 13" big oscar jump out and try to grab the pellets out of your hand as you feed him, then land on your tile. True story...........

Yup, I had my 11 inch Oscar eating out of my hand for a while, then one day he got too excited and jumped clear out of my 75 he was in and hit the carpet a few feet away.
