Hey everyone, I was just starting to wonder about all the different oscar types. I know of the red o's, tigers, albino tigers, lemons, gold's, then other mutations or whatever like longfins and short bodies. I also have right now two tiger O's that have no red on them what so ever, their stripes are a really light sort of green/blue/white sort of color, ill post pics when they come out from hiding. Anyways my question is, what other oscar types are there?

That might be it, I can't think of any others right now. All the types you mentioned are verieties of Astronotus Ocellatus. There is also A. Crassipinnis and A. Orbicularus and maybe others I'm not aware of. A. Orbicularus is very nice looking fish. I've always liked the wild types the best.

The number of types will grow as long as people make up new names for existing varieties and/or create new strains. I know

Ruby red
Lemon
Green
Wild 'locality' names, like my 'Peru'
Tiger
Black tiger
Red tiger
Red
Gold
Common (the mostly unaltered captive strain descended from wild ancestry)
Florida (the released, invasive types)
And long fin, short-bodied, and other defects like the missing dorsal aspect.
Add albino to several of the above-mentioned types to almost double this list.

And the other subspecies crassipinnis, orbicularis and other yet-to-be described varieties.

And the Oscar that Ashdavid must have killed or been too embarrassed about looking common as it grew, a. rubrocellatus. Not a valid species.

:iagree: All strains of oscars started with the common oscar. What we have now are byproducts of select breeding. The same can be said for discus.........

knifegill, the most knowledgeable person on Oscars... Now that is a laugh I have not had in a long time.

It is growing very nicely right now , looks different to any Oscar I have ever seen (and people should know by now that I don't mind a rare fish or two). My three year old daughter has claimed it as her own BTW.

And I really want to thank you for reassurance my decision not to post pics of my fish on the internet anymore.:)

aww ashdavid you shouldnt let haters get to you, i think the rubrocellatus look awesome and i would clear some space in my tank in a heartbeat for one (would also LOVE to see pics of yours which im sure many others on here would as well, in order to appreciate its awesomeness and not be haters :) )
