Would an oscar fish (starting at about 2" or so) co-exist in a tank alone (lets say about 55 gallons or more) with a 7" Black Ghost Knife? or would the Oscar pose a threat to the BGK as the oscar grows up?

If you plan to keep them together then you will need either a bigger tank or another tank as the oscar needs a minimum of 55gals to himself better with a 75g, and a BGK will need a bigger tank as he will get fairly big, if you do this then they will be ok, for now if your gonna keep them together they should be ok just provide plenty of hiding spaces for the BCK. hope this helps!

I don't know much about BGKs, but with Oscars, it will likely depend on the personality of the fish. Many oscars will only eat smaller fish and ignore larger tankmates while some individuals can only be kept alone. Providing plenty of tank space and hiding places will increase the chances of peaceful coexistance. Also, juvenile oscars tend to be more accepting of new tankmates than older ones.

Forgot to add: It's my understanding that oscars are a lot less likely to turn on a tankmate they've grown up with. :)

yeah they can become tank buddies and protect eachother.
that's what 2 of my oscars did. i raised those 2 and 2 silver dollars together since babies. they became buddies with 2 silver dollars and wouldnt let anyone pick on them. very personable fish.

i agree with sasori. and remember no matter what the fish, it isnt rare for an evil fish to be fine with any other fish and vice versa. keeping them from young would be the ideal way to ensure they get along ok though.
