one of my oscar out of two which is 3inch long is heabily breathing and became unactive, he havnt eaten for 2 days now while the other one is still active and normal running up to the glass when i come by, the water periameter is normal its just the two oscar in a 75 growout tank and i havnt move any of the decor. he just sit at the bottom working his mouth constantly and gills

What are your water parameters? That's the first thing to always look into if a fish is gasping heavily. It is possible that gill flukes may be present as well. Does your tank have vigorous surface agitation? What do you feed?

can you put him into a quarantine tank? since only one fish is showing problems, I'd isolate it if possible . . . make sure you have an airstone in the q-tank so you can heavily oxygenate it . . . then observe and report back

that's what I got (for now) . . .

i ran out and bought a 10gallon for it and toss in a airstone and it still isnt doing any better is there any medicine i can get for him/her

We still need more details. Please answer the quote below or refer to my diagnostics sticky thread for more questions to answer which will help a lot more than a few questions. Cover everything as much as possible. Of course, the water parameter results should cover both the main tank and then the hospital tank.

goner. that means he has bacteria in his gills. i recommend you to clean your filter
What makes you think of this?:screwy: This isn't a proper diagnosis. Aerobic and anaerobic bacteria are everywhere. He does not need to clean his filter unless it becomes clogged or the output flow weakening.

I really wish I could find the misinformation tree and chop it down for all of us.

To the OP: Along with your tank info, think of anything which may have happened near the tank recently. Has anyone sprayed anything in the house? Are there kids who may have put something into the tank? Sometimes labored breathing is an indicator of toxins in the water, but it could be your water conditions or something else as well.

it does not always mean there is something wrong ... after eating my larger O always sits at the bottom of the tank next to the air stone and stays there without moving on his side for a few hrs.. first time it scared me .. then he started doing it just about every time.. now its just normal for him.

always within a day comes back to normal ...

so just because the fish is acting odd does not always mean there is something wrong ...

this is why we ask for things like water conditions so that we can eliminate the things that are most common and work into the bigger stuff. The idea is to identify so you only have to treat the problem once .. not just toss in a bunch of crap that could do more harm then good...

so please .. if you dont have a educated contribution to the thread save it for the people who know best...

Aye. I'll second that. My O sulks after every water change and occasionally breathes with more exaggeration. Nothing is ever awry though. Of course, this is the best case scenario. But without more info from the OP, we can do little more than speculate ourselves into oblivion.
