I've got a 120g aquarium with SA fish, and I'd really like a pleco to go with my stock. My filtration is an aqueon 55 and an aquaclear 110, I'll be getting a large canister come christmas. My current stock is one pleco (common), two geophagus tapajos, one blue acara, one green severum, and some pictus catfish. My primary concern is that either the tank is too small or that the oscar will eat the pictus. The footprint is 5'x18". I'd like to get SDs eventually, but they are optional. Any advice is appreciated.

If you grow the Oscar out in the tank he will more then likely leave the cats alone, you should be fine with getting one as long as you get that canister filter.

The oscar "might" cause problems, it's hard to tell unless you try. If you get a small one and grow them up you have a better change at them getting along. Good Luck! Give it a shot.

The pictus do have a "cat-cave" that they occupied about 10 minutes after being added to the tank. every once in a while one of the cichlids will use it to hide after a dispute, and I will be getting more driftwood. The oscars at PetSmart are about 2" max each, and that's my only "lfs" so to speak.

If I decided to get one, would my tank be "overstocked" or okay?
If I decided against it, what would be a cool alternative?

some firemouths would look good in there! get 2 male cons and a male firemouth then you set ( that is if you go agust getting an oscar ) or get the oscar and a firemouth * but no cons *

The PetSmart by me always has some quality looking oscars compared to the other fish stores around here... If I were to buy another oscar that's where I would go;)

You must have a good one around you
The one near me says they can go in a 30 gallon.....
They are 2 inches, but never look good. Then again, I have heard that oscars are cry babies haha
