my tiger oscar is about 3.5" long now and ive had him about a month the top of him is almost browm and his red is on the bottom he is fed bloodworms cichlid sticks hikari pellets and oscar grow is this a sign of velvet or is it normal? and would it hurt to treat the tank even if he doesnt have it just to be on the safe side ? is the meds ok for scaless fish hopefully he is ok i havent had much luck quarantining any fish lately ill probably do the whole tank (75gal) since it is highly contagious hopefully its normal thanks

It is not good to treat when not needed...Post some pics.

pics will help. every oscar seems to have differant coloration. they come looking about anyway you could imagine an oscar to look. so post pics so a diagnosis can be made.

I agree it's not a good idea to put chemicals/Meds in the tank unless absolutely necessary...

Oscars do come in not only a wide variety of color forms but a wide variety within each form. They also can change considerably over time...

If you are worried about the Oscar, do extra water changes... If you want better advice as to it's health, post pics...

Best of luck with the lil guy :)

I apologize for butting in here but i have a baby 2 in tiger oscar. the markings change considerably but is there anyway to gage a juv that will have amazing adult patterns... hoefully you can help me out..

is the black outlining on the lemon something to worry about?

Can you get any better pics? It does look like velvet but I could be wrong....
Then again it looks normal at the same time. I've seen oscars with pretty odd coloration.

Both oscars look fine to me. My white tiger oscar has the black edging on his fins. Just the coloration.
