Hi all, I have an Oscar who is blind in one eye. For the most part he is fine. I feed him so the food falls on his good side, so there are no real dramas at all.
A few months back, I added a True Parrot to the tank, roughly the same size as the Oscar (say 13 inches). The True Parrot has been uncharrctersically aggressive and has torn other fish to shreds. As the Oscar is one of the larger fish in the tank, he hasn’t had his fins torn by the True Parrot, but it would seem that the Oscar has a bad case of pop eye. The pop eye has affected the blind eye. I assume the True Parrot has attacked this eye which has caused it to swell up.
At the moment, the Oscar still has a healthy appetite and is fin-perfect, however the swollen eye concerns me.
Can someone please advise on the best course of action.
The True Parrot is no longer in the tank (as of this afternoon). The only other fish that is in the tank is a Pearl cichlid (Geo. Brazil.) and he is sectioned off from the Oscar. The tank is 6ft with a divider. Ideally I would not like to set up another tank and move the Oscar as this may cause unnecessary stress to him.
As a side note, I have just come back from a two week holiday and during that time I lost 4 fish! I believe this was due to aggression. How or why it struck while I was a way is a mystery - but that’s how things go (Murphy’s Law).
Thanks.
