Hi guys....
I got a pair of oscar few weeks back, they were about 3 to 4 inches in length. Recently (last night) when i held the torch at one of them i found some small white dots on their body. There were very few of them few in the back and fins.. I had some some black orandas few months back that died of the ich disease so i read few articles and assumed that my fish (the oscars) to be infected with the ich diseases. After reading few articles and videos on youtube i wanted to go for the salt and heat treatment. but before this i had added some methyle blue which i later on got to to know that it could kill the good bacteria within the tank. so within two hours i emptied the tank i cleaned it thoroughly with hot water and filled it back. there after i continued with the salt and heat method of distroying the ich.
i added 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallon of water and raised the temperature to 30 degrees celcius.

now the biggest problem is that i ordered a SILVER AROWANA few weeks back and it happened to arrive last night. the aquarium called me and wanted me to come and get the fish. its supposed to be about 1 feet in length most probably. not longer than that. my question is can i add him into the tank while the oscars are being treated? will it infect the arowana too.? NEED A QUICK REPLY PLEASE!!!!! . Thankyou in advance.

Ask the shop to hold onto the arowana on reserve, even if you have to pay a small boarding fee; I wouldn't recommend adding fish into a tank you know is at risk, I've made that mistake and it's not worth it.

How can i confirm whether its ich? i am in doubt cause it does not show any symptoms as in the internet which says that its looses appetite, rub against the tank walls, white stools or sitting in the bottom of the tank...... got any idea? I tried to take a photo but its not visible to that extent. i went to see the Arowana a while ago. its a beauty..... he said that hell keep it for a while to make sure that the fish is healthy and he wanted me to come to pick it up on Sunday....

Did you loose any fish trying to do what i was supposed to do?

Start treating the tank with paraguard and salt. Its most likely ich if there are tiny salt sized white spots on your fish. general symptoms include flashing against rocks and substrate as well as maybe a slight loss in appetite if the infection has progressed enough. Small water changes and substrate vaccing daily along with medication will clear them up in a week or so. Its an easy problem to deal with, I've yet to lose a fish to it.

In the future, take pictures of the fish and the problem, makes it a breeze for people to ID.

the heat/salt method is doable if you have time, which it sounds like you don't. It takes far longer to treat it that way. Grab some Seachem Paraguard if you have it available to you where you live and dose with that. Its a reducing agent therefore won't sit around in your tank stressing your fish out and its outrageously affective against ich. Its all I use for ich if I ever get a random outbreak.
