Okay, so my oscar eats a lot of food. Right now I'm feeding him a mixture of Wardley pellets and Jumbomin sticks, a pretty healthy dose if i say so myself. He eats it all in less than 3 minutes (which is incredible, half of it doesn't even make it into his stomach). And last weekend I bought him his first feeder fish. About 20. They were GONE in like, 3 hours. Am I feeding him too little? or too much?

...Is my oscar going to be a fatporkyfish? Cause my roomates are from miami and love fish. I don't see that turning out well. (j/k!)

That sounds pretty normal to me, Oscars eat like horses. Don't do the feeder thing to often because they get spoiled and will refuse prepared pellets which are a staple of their diets.

Yeah, I was planning on doing it maybe once or twice a month. I've heard it wasn't the healthiest thing for them.

I was basing this on the fact that an old oscar of a friends didn't eat half as much. But then again he was really old.

If you're using goldfish feeders they contain alot of fat. I would use guppy feeders since they're less fat.
Alot of fat can cause them internal diseases. Not necessary but recommended to quarantine the feeders
before feeding is always best, IMO.

I wouldn't be feeding it any of these store bought feeders, not worth the risk to your oscar's health at all

Definitely agree with that. It's pretty amazing how much they can put away isn't it?

Be careful as half the food goes right out there gills. These are extremely messy fish. I would keep my eye on the water clarity and such if I were you. Also, just do the feeders once in awhile like maybe once every couple weeks. You can also give them crickets.

you're better of using just crickets if you want to provide live foods, instead of feeder fish from the store. Feeder fish in the form of fish you breed yourself is a good idea though
