My friend is wondering, how long will a tiger-oscar be able to go without food? It's about 3 in. long and is fed feeder goldfish and bloodworms regularly. any ideas would be helpful, hopefully for a little more than a week? No automatic feeder, would stocking the tank with goldfish do the trick?

First, and this is my opinion, I would stop feeding him goldfish. They are messy and could carry disease unless you grow them yourself and keep them medicated. If you feel he can't go a week without eating, I would put in a school of Rosy Reds maybe. Hopefully some of the more experianced folks will offer in some advice also. Good Luck!!

Just give him double what he would normally eat right before you leave. He should be fine for a week. Any more than a week and you will need someone to stop by and feed him for you. Also, as stated above, you probably shouldn't feed him goldfish. Try cichlid sticks for regular food, my 12in oscar loves them so much, he will jump 4 or 5 inches out of the tank and grab them out of my hand. And if I'm not careful, he will bite my finger too just for teasing him.

he will be fine for 1 week without food ive had mine go for 2 weeks,i would sugest he stops useing feeder goldfish even if u raise them yourself since golldfish have no nutritional value anyways.if u want to make sure he doesnt starve add a bit of guppys or rosy reds in the tank, but u should be ok for 1 week
