i got a new oscar for my b-day saturday from the gf cause she likes the personality but! i only have a 37 gallon :( what do i do cause she dont want me to give it up but on the other hand i cant go no bigger tank in my room since i have a weak floor.

I disagree.

Ymolina, have you already mentioned to her the tank size and stunting issues? Please tell her everything about this. She needs to understand why you cannot keep an oscar there. There are much better options without risking the fish's well being. I am sure she will find better options than just an oscar.

thats what im thinkin but how long can i keep it cause she loves it until i have to get rid or "sell" it. cause i know when that time comes she will hate me.

no i wont actually grow it out but like maybe to like 6-7 or maybe 8 inches then sell it. im not goin to let it grow out cause i know they can go over 1 ft long.

Does she already know this type of plan? I don't see that going any better than bluntly telling her you cannot keep an oscar at all and encouraging her to look at other options that are better than this. I personally prefer that she knows better why you can't keep an oscar than just to sell it after a few months, whether she knows, agrees to it or not. You'll have trouble detaching yourself from the fish you tried to grow and so will she.

i used to have short body bichirs an she likes those to so what im hoping is i can get her off the oscar an back onto the bichirs. she likes them cause of there pectoral fins. im wanting a del but she likes all bichirs. myself it wouldnt be hard to sell the fish but it might be to her.

Explaining that you can't keep it is really your best option. I don't think a woman will "hate" a man if he just wants what is best for a fish.
