i have not researched the ocsar yet and i will do so befor i buy one . a friend of mine has two and i think they are just great . i know i cant put them in with my community 125g tank or there will be nothin left of the fish but i have an extra 40g i am not useing and was wondering if that would be big enough for an oscar and if so can any other fish be in there with him/her besides an algee eater when i do get one ?

If its a 40 breeder 36x18 you can grow him out the first year in it
then they really need 70g 48"x18" to mature and be healthy

You are going to need a bigger tank than a 40 g for an oscar. I have mine in a tank with a Jack Dempsey, 2 ACF's, a pleco, a rope fish, spotted gar, a tinfoil barb, and a couple of snails. They are messy eaters, and even bigger poopers. I love em. They have great personality and can live up to 10 yrs or so.

thanks for the replies , i will do that i think grow him out for first year i just wont tell my wife i need a bigger tank till the time is right . lol lol :screwy: :screwy:

40 long will be okay for one but anything else will be too confine for it. Its one crazy fish that's for sure.

Yeah, I wouldn't put him in a 40 gallon to start. Start with the big at least 55 gallon tank, if you start with anything smaller you will have a stunted Oscar. Mine are in a 55 gallon and doing really well. They are close to about 9" now. Good luck
