Eventually the oscar is going to beat up on the gar, he'll likely grow faster. And that tank will last 3 months at most, oscars grow up pretty quick. Plus they have a lot of waste, you're going to need fresh water pretty frequently.

+1 i wouldnt get any other fish for that tank honestly its to small even for a growout

you mean the tank is 2 ft, right? 2ft tanks are not even aquate for the widness of a rtc/tns perment home or a sub adult... iMO the minumum tank size for the tnc/rtc, gar, and oscar is a 84x34x24... a few inches take or give... I know that is a growout but I would not start growing them out in anything less than a 40 breeder or a 50 gallon as they will only last till they are 4-6 inches each in your everyday 2ft 20ish gallon... just wanted to warn you about these huge fish you are getting yourself into...

The Oscar and the gar will be fine. I have a 13" Oscar and a 13" Gar and they completely ignore each other. But as everyone else has mentioned, you're going to need a bigger tank sooner than later...

Bigger tank soon, less than 6 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Get the filtration going on the small tank and move it to the newer, larger tank you will be placing this tankbusters in..........For one Oscar, I would get it a 75-100g tank..........The catfish will need a much larger tank, more like a pond........The gar can do good in a 6 foot 125g with the oscar...........
Filtration suggestions(for larger tank, but you can start running on the small tank now):
-----DIY wet/dry filter made out of plastic 3-drawer setup and a 55-60g plastic storage container.....

-----Fluval and/or RENE FilStar canister filter..............

-----2 or more Aqua Clear hob's for mechanical filtration...............
