Just wondering how to tell the sex of my Oscar I've been told a couple of ways like the size of the dorsal fin and anal fin and a friend has told me only the male's shake their tail in that fast up and down thing they do and don't know how much truth is in it any help would be great

Only way to tell is to vent it or put a few together and see if they pair up and breed. No way to tell by looking at them.

Like others gave said, there is not distinctive marks to tell them apart like other fish have. Easiest way to get a vent pic is when they are feeding or like me teasing Toni with food to get her to swim strait up to grab a pic.

Lol yeah Oscar was not happy it was the only photo I thought I had of him on my phone then I found the other one

Haha...I’ve been doing the same thing to my oscar (bolt) so I could get a pic and sex he/she but he/she can’t stay in one spot.
