I got my two Oscars from a guy, who owns a semi-public aguarium. He has 250g cichlid tank with 4 oscars. Two of them started to spawn, so he gave the other two oscars to me.
I've got them for a month now and I know a little something about oscar, I bred them succssfully but yet don't understand these two. One minute they swim gently one beside the other but the next moment fight aggressively. They spent most of the time cleaning flat rock, digging holes in the bottom, which is a spawnig behaviour. But I just don't understand the aggression. Any experience?

i thought that is general oscar behaviour, mine have spats evry now and then, mostly same as yours

Could possiblly be two females.

Would explain the slate cleaning / breeding behaviour as well as the aggression that crops up from time to time.

Give it a while though, see what happens. your tank is easily big enough for them, so even if you dont end up with a pair, i'd imagine they'll live their lives happily in a fair sized tank.

Time for me to bugger off anyway, seems i've forgotten how to spell :)

They are in 140g tank. This should be enough. I just don't see the reason fopr them to fight.
I'm not looking for a mating par, just for Os to get along.

I had a pair doing that for a while. Came home one day and one was nose down in the corner without any scales on one side.

Hope it won't happen to me the same.

No more ideas?
