I got a new 55 gallon tank.. and oscars are the main fish I want.. but i'm wondering what type of fish they will get along with.. in my 20 gallon I have an Asian Upside down catfish.. and two regular ones.. and an angel fish.. I've seen some oscars in tanks with catfish.. but what i'm really wondering is if the oscar will get along with a dempsey?

i hope your planning on getting a biggertank for those oscars. i think that 75gallons is the minimum for 1 oscars. to answer your question, yes oscars and dempsey's can be kept together fine but your gonna need a tank bigger then 55gallons. aim from at least 75. Get back to me.

Thanks for the help.. I can't go any bigger than 55 right now but if my oscar gets to large my uncle would take it he lives around the corner and has a large tank. Thanks for the help.

wait till the oscars get to big then get the dampsey's. you could probally fit 2 of them nicely in there. amazing fish, i also have 2 in a 55gallon myself.

So you reccomend getting the dempseys when the oscars are no longer in there.. because I was going to get an oscar and a demspey both very small ones and let them mature at the same time.

If it was me, I would stick an oscar in at least a 75 but the 75 or 55 min tank size is a hot debate. Also what is the "two regular ones" you are referring to? (as far as asian upside down/Mystus leucophasis, I have seen it done) Do you plan on moving all these fish together, bc for starters I dont think the angel would fair well with the dempsey and oscar. Also, you are going to cycle that tank before you add anything.

No, no.. for my 55 gallon I'm not planning on moving those fish in I have them in another seperate tank.. for the large tank I wanted the oscars or dempseys.. and other chichlids

the asian upside down will hit up to a foot, so I think a 20 gallon would be a bad idea for it. If it's a 20L its bad for the angel fish, but if it is a 20 High, then it's bad for the upsidedown cat.

Yeah I don't plan on keeping them in their for very long.. the asian upside down is barely an inch yet.. but do you have an ideas for what fish I should get along with an oscar for the larger tank?

Personally, i would get a bigger tank for the oscar seeing as oscars can hit 14'' and a standard 55 is only 13'' wide...
