who cares
has anyone ever kept these two together successfully. I just got a 6 ft. 135 and want to move my oscar out of his 55 and get him a tankmate i saw this green tex that i really like. MY O is 9" and the tex is 4" i. Do you think it will work? I have other tanks so if it doesn't work out i could move the tex.

It is worth a shot.

I'd put the texas in the tank first and add the oscar a few hours later. in that size tank I don't think you'll have too much trouble but keep an eye on them for the first few days. :)

I'd actually worry more about the oscar. I raised my oscar and green texas together and the oscar was always much bigger and picked on the green texas, then one day the green texas beat the snot out of the oscar and has done so 3-4 times when i tried to put them together again thinking the oscar has more size advantage. If it's an aggressive green texas, you might want to put the oscar in first and have more fish than the two of them in there - i had some temporary peace when my JD was with them. You can maybe have some dithers like tinfoils or balas.

I have 3 O's from 7-8 inches and 2 Texas's about 2 inches, and I have to giggle every time I see my smallest TX come up from behind the O's and give them a nip on the fins when they go near his "home".

I fed my O's well b4 I dumped the TX's in the tank. My O's are able to eat feeders much bigger than the TX's are. The TX act as if they own the place, and act very dominent for a bunch of little guys. The O's never mess with them.

The have so much additude for their size, you should not have much to worry about. I did make lots of caves n stuff for them to hide in, they just dont feel the need to use them!

Good luck, but dont be surprised if you find your O hiding from your little TX!

You'd be surprised what can go together with a few places to hide and enough food to keep everyone happy. I do agree to add the smaller first so he can establish and watch them VERY closely. . . some fish within the same species are more aggressive than others. . . just ask my JD's in my mbuna tank :D

I have just signed up for this site today but I have been over at Oscarfish the whole time. I have been keeping an Oscar with a texas for about 18 months now and there was no problems at all. They are in a 75 gallon and I have had no aggression problems at all. this tank may be slightly tight for these two to be roommates but I do water changes every 3rd day so there fine. there best buds. I just recomend you watch at first cause I may have just been lucky and you may get two grumpy fish.
