Anyone who has kept kribs will know just how clever and alert they are at all times, brilliant little house builders. I had to keep a small male with my oscar for a few weeks and he was pretty 'street wise' when it came to avoid being eaten. He is paired up now in his own tank with a lovely little lady but got me wondering if anyone has ever had kribs live with oscars? Maybe they will slip up one day and become lunch, but they are much smarter than oscars.

Never tried that combo, but I had some hemichromis sp. Turquoise that I was holding for a friend in a divided section of the main tank, surprisingly enough they realized they could slip through n steal the big guys food, so they started doing so. All 3 were so aware they didn't have a nip on em until my Orino had enough of the bigger male

Saved him from that and he was fine and happily breeding w/ the female w/ a friend. Similar situation, I feel if the small fish are flighty and aware enough, they could survive long term w/ bigger guys w/o predation as long as there are plenty of nooks and crannys for em to hide in, is your tank setup in such a way they have spots to go to they know they are safe in?

I have been growing out two green texas cichlids and two green terrors, as well as a green sunfish, in a 125 gallon tank with my 9" Oscar for about two months now. The terrors are 3-4" and the texas are around 2". The sunfish is around 2" too. The Oscar will sometimes chase them away but I think he knows that they are too smart and fast for him to catch. They know it too, and don't even bother running most of the time now
