Does anyone who keeps Os have success with live plants. For years I've been wanting to start live plants but haven't because my Os are pretty destructive. They take the fake plants out now and shake them like a pitbull playing tug of war. In fact as I'm typing this post they are attacking a piece of driftwood moving it across the tank. Just wondering if anyone has been able to do it.

you can but only the hardiest of species. hard thick tought plants are best, expecially ones who can root into/on rocks and drift wood.

THere is such a thing as an Oscar Planted tank?? :)

:iagree:

java fern, java moss, water lettuce...big amazon swords already planted adn rooted..

Cichlids and plants are compatible as long as plants are not mauled by the fish AND can survive without being rooted into the substrate.

I had success with anubias and java moss. Instead of tying them onto driftwoods, just use the plant weights (I think it's made of lead) and you arrange plants between woods or in their crevices. This worked even with motoros for me.

Ugly green gravel with a picture style background is the closest I've ever come to having a planted oscar tank ;) At 13 inches Homer can toss just about anything he wants around the tank.
