Ive had my oscars for about 3 months and havnt seen any growth at all. I think that there might be a parasite. Poop is greenish and reddish sometime depending on what i feed them. But if i feed them light they poop out a light green/whitish stringy poop. what kind of parasite could this be?

ok first is the fish acting funny? is the fish eatting? what size is the fish right now? i have a 8" oscar right now have had him for about 6mth and when i got him he was only about 2" i started him on guppys then moved up to gold fish if your fish is eating and is big enough to eat a guppy i would start feeding it them i think you will see that your oscar will start to grow very fast. as for a parasite, most fish stores sell things you can add to your water to help with that, and will not harm the fish. hope this helps

feeding your oscar fish is not a good idea. It is fine for a treat, but they have a hard time digesting the fat in fish and it is hard on their systems....

But how big is your tank? What is your water change schedule like?
Pics?

I think you definitely have some sort of issue/parasite, and I think you can dose with something but I'm unsure of what. Maybe increase the temp some too.

Feeding the Oscar other fish will more likely cause more parasite transmission issue than it is worth. Always use a high quality pellet as a staple with treats being things like earthworms (purchased or caught from area free of pesticides) or frozen food items.

It does sound like there might be an internal parasite involved in this case.

It is a 65 gallon with a 20 gallon sump. I just did a 30 gallon change today. I took out purigen out of my sump yesterday cause I thought that could be the problem. I dont feed live, i feed them massivore delight.

I will increase the temp from 78 to 80 and see if that will help at all.

i caught one oscar rubbing. and both of these Os came from different parts of california. And the bigger oscar (one who was rubbing) likes to eat the other oscars poop. So if the smaller of the two had a parasite its possible that it passed on to the big one by fecal consumption. right?

Well first off I hope you're planning to upgrade your tank soon. Very soon! They will need the room to swim around. You may have 95 gal with the sump, but you'll want them to be able to stretch out.

Yes, they could have passed the parasites. I think you can add epsom salt to help this, but am not 100% ... Also have heard Metronidazole works.

If it really is internal parasites either prazi pro or Metronidazole are your best options. However, if they are flashing or rubbing against things the issue could be external (gill flukes, etc)

When he said rubbing, I instantly thought about gill worms or something of those likes. I had gill worms in my red acara's and now one of them has an issue with her gill cap not closing due to a worm that has been incapsulated by her body. It doesn't seem to affect her badly, but if I were you I would take them to a knowledgeable lfs to have your fish tested on site for worm, parasites etc.
