Would 2-3 Oscars be ok in a (TEMPORARY) tank with 2-3 Balas?

I plan on upgrading by end of the year.

Just trying to peice together some stock ideas. Empty 72g aint too appealing to the eyes, no?

(Dont jump all over me, i havent done anything with this combo yet.. just getting ideas)

I don't think you'll have any problems if the Bala Sharks are big enough to avoid the oscar. But I think 2-3 oscars would outgrow a 72 G by the end of the year, while the Bala's won't. Towards the end of their temporary stay, you may have a problem with the oscars being too much bigger than the Bala's and the threat that the oscars could eat the Bala's would be present.

I suggest that you get only 1 oscar and get larger bala sharks, so the Oscar does not outgrow them too fast

Mine's ok. 2 oscars, 1 severum and 4 balas.

No problem especially if they are of small size.

I had 4 balas with a tiger oscar (among other fish) and they were fine...in a 270 gallon. Oscar and Bala's were 2" when I bought them and after 1.5 years the oscar was 12" and the Balas were 9 to 10". Why not get fish that you can keep for life in the tank you currently have? Or wait until you upgrade to a bigger tank and buy the Oscar and Balas then. How about getting some convicts or something else that doesn't get so big....just in case your plans to upgrade fall through?

I would go with 1 oscar and 2-3 balas. The oscars would probally fight as they get some size on them not to mention the bioload that three would place on your system.

I had an O with same Bala's never a problem.
