I do so love the personality of my Oscars, and find them similar to the personality of one of my Bowfins, named "Grumpy".

I would love to keep these fish together, but I am concerned that it might not work.

Has anyone kept Oscars and Bowfin together.

My lemon oscar is 7", red oscar is 15", and tiger oscar 13". There is also an 8" Paratilapia Polleni and two 12"+ Ornate Bichirs in the tank and two 6-8" Yellow Bullhead catfish.

Grumpy is well over a foot long and currently homed with a 8" bluegill and a 7" blue channel catfish.

One major concern is that I have another Bowfin out in my GarDen pond that totally obliterated a 15" Nile Tilapia, that was SO much tougher than any fish in the Oscar tank that there was no chance of housing a agressive fish like the Nile Tilapia in this peaceful tank.

While Grumpy is my favorite fish, and the coolest cucumber in town, it is painfully obvious if it chose to it could demolish every fish in the Oscar tank without effort! I love seeing how hard the bowfin can hit its meal. We have a game and Grumpy likes to make a display of taking "meat" from my hand with the hardest fastest hit and largest splash and sound possible. Grumpy is extremely careful not to hurt me during the game. I have felt the Grumps teeth many times playing this feeding game, but it is completely obvious that Grumpy is being gentle as possible and has never drawn blood from my fingers, even though I'm sure he could remove them!

This game intimidates the living heck out of the Bluegill and Channel cat who go into serious hiding during the feeding. They eveidently understand they would not survive being hit by the Grump during the game, and ALWAYS wait their turn to be fed.

My concern is that any fish in the Oscar tank did not respect Grumps rules of the game becomes chum.
