Hi, today I got a 9" Tiger oscar, I put him in with my 9" albino oscar. They were fine for a few hours, but now they seem to be fighting and locking lips. Is this normal for them to do this? Does this kind of establish the pecking order, or will this hurt one of them?
Thanks, Jude.

How many gallons is the tank? You should've grown them up together, it's too late now, they will fight.

^ agreed. when they grow up together, they don't fight. i have two that were bought together as juveniles. they're like partners in crime. and get along well. i've never seen them in a liplock.

I never had that mine just do a bonzi and hit each other then run.... Kinda funny but scary for me cause idk if it will break into ww3

just give it some time and hopefully they can coexist, but probably won't work with a long established fish having to deal with a new conspecific

when u add new oscars ur suppose to move around the decor so they have to re establish there area's

this technique is good, but for a large oscar that has been established in the tank, I think it might be too late...would've worked better while both o's were juveniles

What size is your tank? If its not at least 125 gallons, take one of the oscars back. If you want to put oscars together you ether need to grow them up together small or have a big tank. A while ago,I had a 125 with a 12'' red oscar and I added a 10'' tiger. I used feeder fish for dithers, and how I got them to get along was kinda tricky. I made a transparent divider with holes big enough for the oscars to stick there mouth threw. The oscars flared up at each other. I had the divider in for a month or so then I took it out. They fought, but not as bad. So I put the divider back in and waited 2 more weeks with it in. I took it out and there was less fighting. I put it back in for a month and took it out again and they still fought a little( they are oscars so they will fight) but they were able to live together with out killing each other. You can try this same method but it will take as I said at least 2 months.

good luck

How big is the tank?
