Got a baby oscar with my senegalus, and it seems overnight the senegalus got a little hungry and nipped his dorsal/caudal fin and big chunks are missing. I don't think it actually is into the flesh, and can't really get any pics. will they grow back? i feel bad for the little guy

if the bichir is bigger then the Oscar then he will be food.

bitten fins will grow back as long as the base of the fins is still there.
If the base is missing, the damage may be permanent.
Remove the aggressor, to get your Oscar better and to keep him that way!

i really wanna keep the senegalus ive had him since he was about an inch and a half, maybe a bigger oscar? but what size

oscars are aggressive fish, so you wanna watch out for that too [if you get an oscar too large]. also, oscars grow very quickly. if you wanna grow this guy out in a seperate tank for a month or two, he should be fine. it's not necessarily if the oscar is smaller than the bichir that he will be lunch, because bichirs are longer than they are large. but this guy seems too small. anyway, to answer the fin question, as others have already said: yes, they will grow back. as long as it isn't into the base of the fin. this happened to my smaller oscar [puffer nipped his tail about half a second after i put him in the tank] and it grew back very very quickly. i put in some aquarium salt to a little less than the recommended dose and it seemed to help a bit.

its a pretty solid chunk out of his tail... i dunno if there is any way for this to grow back, he now cowers in a cave and never comes out
