ok, this is wired, 2 brand new - asin i got them today, oscars, got home, setted them in - they were fine, played with them, fed them (ham AND flakes) they were still fine.
i walked out of the room for abit (dinner... it was tasty) and when i wnt back. they were nowhere to be seen! i looked in the tank and found them - behind rocks n aying on the gravel - still alive - one was pale. one was very dark - i found out the temp was 28 degrees C.i took it down to 26, then to 24. theyre still alive but are still laying on substrate, one is very pale and one is very dark. the tank is well planted and has many rocky surfaces. they both hide under one. is the hideing normal? anyone have any ideas? =S one is very very fat atm too... could it be pregnant? all help is great - please post

First, 28 degrees is not excessive for oscars. Secondly they are stressed from the move and oscars tend to sulk more than just about any other fish. Third, how big are they, what size tank, and any tank mates? Fourth, why are you feeding them ham and stop doing so.

ok - i was told to feed them ham and chicken =S
size - bout 5 inches - 6 inches
tank mates - angel , get on well with, opline gourami, hav had a fight with, a sucking loach, wich hides in the rocks
temp - putting back up

i think it may be the gourmi - how should i get rid of it?

dont feed them ham and chicken. buy a good quality pellet, oscars as they get older just cannot digest warm blooded meat well, and it causes them to get ill. i feed my oscars a good quality pellet, flake (he is still a baby), krill, spirulina, and i have heard they love shelled peas, carrot bits, some nuts (walnuts and pecan bits), small pieces of banana, my finger.. etc.

stay away from feeding hotdogs, ham, and other fatty meats.

oh and feeder fish-dont feed them feeders either. some ppl do, i just think that with such a variety out there, there is no reason to give them feeders.

Oscars will hide or sulk in a new tank for a few days.
How long has the tank been setup? Is it cycled?

Ive gotten disease in my tank from feeders also because they are so dirty.

did you acclimate them properly? and stop feeding them ham and chicken

ok i get it - no more ham... ill advised on that one (stupid shop) cycled? tank is bout 1 year old. i dont use feeders. i have started to use flake (theyre still young) pellets, krill and shredded carrot.
