Oscars Life

a 55 will be just sufficient for a single oscar with NO tankmates.
Adding fish will make maintenance a pain, and you have to do multiple waterchanges every week, if you want to keep tankmates in with the oscar.
And a second Oscar is just not done.
That will most likely result in unhappy fish and bad waterquality will be the cause of disease and eventually death, after a long time of suffering.

If you want to keep all those fish, better be looking for something like a 150Gl tank.

how long would an Oscar live in a 55 gallon tank?

with maybe three other fish?

55 Gallon is barely big enough for one oscar with no tank mates. If you wanting tank mates with your Oscar your going to need a bigger tank then a 55. Even then an oscar can easly out grow a 55g in the first year if he becomes bigger then 12", and alot of them do. If you keep up on your water changes the Oscar could live a heathy full life by himeself in a 55. However i personal think that an Oscar should not be in anything smaller then a 75 gallon. :)

i have my oscar that is about 2 inches along with 2 Firemouth cichlids that are about an inch in my 55g till my 125 gets the filter and the oscar goes in there.

I just do my 25% water change and week and have an emp 400 running on it and its fine.....so far

lol give it a month or so and 25% water chages are not going to be enough. Oscars have a very big bio load. 1 six inch oscar by himself in a 55 requires a 40-50% water change weekly just to keep the water in check.

I am actually surprised with 3 fish one being an Oscar and only a 25% weekly in a 55 that you dont have high ammonia or nitrite levels. Whateve your doing must be working. Good for you :)

With the fish at that size you will be OK. Like everybody else says gve the fish a few short months, and they will double in size then your small water changes won't be enough.
