My brother owns a 90 gallon 1 oscar, and 1 pacu both 6 inches. When I visited him today, his oscar was getting torn to pieces still holding his own but that bastard pacu keeps lip locking with the oscar the bottom lip is almost torn!!! it has white stringy fungus and the oscar is hiding. How do you get rid of fungus? and Are pacu always this aggressive?

ive never kept pacu because of the massive size they attain, pacu need a pond or massive tank as they get like 2ft long and probably just as tall so i would go ahead and re-home it if you dont have another tank for it to go into and im sure your oscar will thank you for it as well. as for the fungus could you get a pic so we could see how bad it is? i would first start out by doing a big water change and keeping the water pristine and adding salt to the tank. and then maybe you could dose with pimafix or melafix (forget which one helps with fungal stuff...)

Pacu's jaws and teeth are designed for cracking hard nuts, their teeth are comprable to that of a human. The Oscar will be completely out matched by an overly aggressive Pacu of similair size. As Sarah stated - seperation, aquarium salts, and stlighty raise temps to around 84-85 to speed up the fungal/bacterial metabolism. White stringy could be the onset of cottonwool - a very aggressive disease onset by poor water conditions and stress. There are meds specificly designed for both fungus and cottonwool you'll need a positive id to know which way to go. Mela/Pimaflex are organic extracts a good place to start but not true medication - depends on how far along the disease is as for which will work.

human like teeth indeed, and with a temper a bad tankmate for an oscar...
