I purchased two very fully grown oscars, about 11" and 14". How long will it take them to eat? I've tried live rosies and nightcrawlers, frozen tilapia and market shrimp, massivore delite and hikari floating carnivore sticks...its been three days now and they haven't touched anything.

Give them time. Tank size, tank mates, decor will make Oscars act depressed, famous for sulking. So long as they are otherwise acting normal I wouldn't be to worried

They act perfectly normal. They swim all day, very slowly. They are probably the least skittish fish I've ever seen. No aggression out of them either. Tank size is 240 gallon. 96x24x24. Tank mates are 18" ID shark, 18" longnose gar, 16" clown knife, 18" fire eel, 10" endli, 10" weeksii, 6" ornate, 5" blood parrot, 4" gold red dot severum, 3" green severum, 12" rope fish, and 8" rope fish. Tank decor is bare with the exception of one big fake plant that the fire eel has claimed.

So probably still a little stressed. Just watch them at feeding time and give them time

I just recently went through the same thing it took about a week, I had to put him in his own tank and he ate a small piece of cut up night crawler at first then after a few days he would eat bigger pieces he still won't eat the whole worm or eat any pellets but it still has been only less than 2 weeks. Give it time, good luck.

Oscar's are famous for being cry babies, Id give it 2 weeks before I worried at all.

I absoultly agree Oscars are big time sulkers when somthing changes. They are aquatic drama queens. Give them a week or two they'll come around. If they are not sick they will start eating and then wouln't stop. Remember the old saying becareful what you wish for you just might get it. GL

Yep, patience and diligence. They'll eat eventually... and at those sizes they will be fine without food for a good stretch. Did you check with LFS to see what they were feeding there?

I did when we purchased them. The guy said floating pellets. So we bought some. Through further questioning we found out that they had come in just the night before. The store had them for a little over 12 hours....thinking that the employee was b.s.ing a little bit.
