Hello Everyone, I have two oscars that I got a couple months ago that havnt shown any growth since ive gotten them. Ive been changing 30 gallons once to twice a week in a 65 gallon with a 20 gal sump. I have been alternating on feeding them massivore delight, cichlid staple, cichlid gold, and sinking carnivore pellets. They seem to run the food through themselves pretty quick so I am now starting to think it could be internal like a parasite. Is there anything else I should look for? Is there a possibility I can overfeed my oscars?

What are the nitrates at?

Massivore and sinking carnivore are okay food. The others are just corn flakes and worth more as kindling than feed. Add crickets and earthworms to that menu and you'll be doing a lot better. Also find out if your O's will accept blanched asparagus. Whenever I feed any fish asparagus they grow like weeds.

I deworm with prazi-pro and it works well. Harmless and worth a try. Watch their poo for worms while treating and if you find them, triple the treatment period to nine days instead of three (with water changes between each dosing).

Yes, you can definitely overfeed fish. What are the parameters of the tank? 65 is too small for 2 oscars long term. Also, how big are the fish right now? What does their excrement look like? Anything else in the tank with them? All important questions.

wow thats wierd. i have a red oscar i got about 3 months ago and he was 3 inches long now 9 inches. hope everything goes well for u.. theyll grow though, just wait a while long

The poop has been stringy when i dont feed em too much, and when i feed them till they look like they are going to pop, the poop looks the same as it went in. I just blanched some asparagus and im going to chop it into pieces and feed it to them. Should i feed them this everyday or just one day out of the week. I have been powerfeeding for growth btw. I feed the staple to my tilapia and it caused him to hit 7" in a year.

They are two wild types (color wise). I got one here in SF and one down in LA. So they arent from the same batch. The guy at my lfs suggested that since these ones havnt grown they could be dwarfs. But the others from the same batch as my smallest have grown no problem.

The most important part of powerfeeding is the daily water changes. If you don't do that, you're just power-polluting.

I have a Oscar that grew from 1.5" to 8 in a few months, but has seemingly stopped or slowed down a lot. Although given the fact he stopped eating for more then 3 months I guess this is normal.

Edit: few months was like 6 or so.

I got 2 oscars just over a month ago ,they were both around 3 inch.
They both eat like pigs,:D on cichlid gold/staple ,earthworms, bloodworm etc.
The tiger oscar is around 6 inch and thick but the lemon oscar has only grown about a 1/4 of an inch,
Must be like humans, some people eats lots and dont put weight on and some are lard asses
