Severums do best, other SA/CA cichlids can be mixed with O's , just be careful because even though O"s get huge they are some of the least aggressive Monster fish IMO, and do tend to get "bullied" and sometimes killed by smaller sa/ca cichlids, RD's, jags, GT's,etc, iv'e even seen them get bullied by convicts
No need to apologize...it's good that you're asking questions. I worked at a petstore for 6 years through high school and college and I would much rather spend all day answering the same questions over and over and know the fish was being well cared for rather than send him home to his inevitable demise.
Well, as long as you plan on upgrading your tank you could put an oscar in a 75. I think the Flowerhorn may beat it up though. Considering some of the fish used to breed the Flowerhorn (Trimac, Red Devil...) are some of the meanest fish out there, I would think your Oscar would be at risk. I have 2 Oscars and 2 Severums in a 150 and I've never had a problem.
Carolinafishkeeper is spot on...the Oscar may be able to eat large prey, but it's the closest thing to a lap dog in the fish world. For example, my 12" albino is terrified of my 5" Raph cat...and he's out maybe once a year.
anymore suggestions? mostly here at our place lfs common fishes are the only one's readily available...im not into rare ones just want to have my oscar to have tankmates..... peace bro's in fish
you cant really fit much else, 1 o will pretty much take the whole tank. Maybe some silver dollars or a pleco? If your gonna add another cichlid your pretty much limited to something small lika a blue acara or convict because of the tank size. Id really just keep it alone, much less tank maintenance and they become more personable when alone.
Youre pretty limited in a 75.plecos usually work.
At one year old my O tried to kill eveything in his tank, except the pleco. At over two years now he takes up too much space to add much,he still has a pleco, and I recently added an adult male firemouth that he hasnt bothered with yet
