Hey all

A friend of mine has two very young Oscars - not even 2" long yet. They have been back from the LFS for three weeks in a new and very clean tank.
Both now appear to have small holes in their heads.....is this likely to be the disease, or damage??

If it is the disease what is the best way too treat it? They are sharing the tank with 2 bristlenose's and 4 blue JD's.

All advice appreciated!!

If it is HITT, raise the temp to 86-88F and add aquarium salt per directions on the box. Keep up the water changes to at least 50% a week. A young healthy O should not have HITT. Water changes and a varied diet is the best prevention.

i think it is possible although unlikely, does he clean his tank often? how big is the tank? what diet?

ditto on changing the water and aq salt, altho i would raise the water temp to about 90 even 92 oscars can take the high temps. most importantly frequent water changes, salt

Its a big 350L (125g?) bow fronted tank, fortnightly 25% percent water change and the diet is a mixture of hikari cichlid gold and some treats of frozen cichlid mix, brine shrimp etc.

Are they very small pin hole looking holes or do they look whitish, it could be the sensory pits if their just small holes, here are pics of the difference (normal pits first, mild HITH second) and a link where I found the pics and some other info, http://www.flippersandfins.net/HITHarticle2.htm

Unfortunately, they look just like the 2nd pic. Thank you very much for the advice, muchly appreciated.

no such thing as to young no real cure also just keep the water as clean as you can and they sould heal up eventually but other then that and not feeding feeders theres not much you can do
