I'm not thinking about the long run as the Oscar will be moved to a bigger tank in the future. My girlfriend wants to get me some new fish for my 55 that I currently have and I've wanted a couple clown loaches for some time now. The only question I have is if they clown loaches will be fine with the oscar. The oscar is only about 1 inch right now and the loaches will be about the same size. The oscar will get moved when he gets bigger so I'm not worrying about the "when it gets bigger" scenario right now.

People have had success keeping clowns with oscars but you should get them larger then the oscar and 3 of them or so. The oscar grows FAST and clowns are VERY slow growers so the oscar would see them as food quickly unless you got them larger to start...

I have two oscars with 5 clown loaches right now.

you need at least 5 clown loaches for them to be truly happy in a school environment. Some people say 3, but in my experience, they are not happy with that few.

If you get clown loaches that are at least 3.5"-4" the oscars shouldn't see them as food.

Clown loaches are seriously slow growers. If you get smaller loaches and put them with the oscars, there is a chance they will outpace the loaches enough that one day you will wake up and not have them anymore.

Also keep in mind loaches are scaleless fish.

Aquarium salt and medicines will burn their bodies to the point of death.

They are extremely sensitive to water quality too. They are a good barometer as to how happy and healthy your tank truly is.

Thanks you all are a great help :)

I'll probably still get them as they are plain awesome. Def quarantine them for a little and hopefully get 'em bigger than the oscar. It's not happening today, either, so I'll have to see how big the oscar is in a couple weeks and make my judgement off of that.
