In ideal conditions, could a firemouth be kept with an Oscar, saying that they were both introduced at roughly the same time, and the same size. And as a side note, how long is it before firemouth cichlids start getting their glourious colors?

IMO it should be ok as long as the size descrepancy isn't huge, and like you said, growing them together will help

have no problem with mine. My oscars are around 12-13 inches and my firemouth is like 2inches at most. Never bother him but there not real aggressive either unless there yellow gold fish.

Well, it seemed to work for me the past few days, that is untill my catfish ate him sometime last night

Ooh, that's a slap in the face! Sorry for your loss, man. RIP. :(

well, not the Oscar's fault tho' . . .

yeah they could be kept just fine together in the right size tank and right type of setup

they are fine together aggression wise. however try to get them around the same age. firemouths are generally smaller so as long as they dont fit in the oscars mouths they should be fine.
