even since i got onto this site ive been checking out all the oscars and now i want one relly bad!!!!!!
i have a 55 planted tank and i was wondering if it could work or would the oscars tear up my plants???????
btw im upgrading to a 90 gallon soon for the oscar!!!:grinno:

Live plants are a waste of effort with oscars. No matter how well you think you've planted/anchored them, the oscars will rip them out or move them to serve their moods. And, it's non-stop since oscars constantly rearrange the rocks, wood, gravel, and decorations to suit themselves.

The only occassions I've seen intact healthy plants used in oscar tanks was where glass dividers were used to essentially make a full length refugium of the rear of the tank. The plants couldn't be reached by the oscars but, were part of the recirculation system.

what about drift wood??? would the drift wood effect them at all or wud the oscars mess with it????

they woodnt mess with the driftwood

Ive seen my oscar push around a 3' pice of driftwood but he cant damage it really.

Yea and an oscar with live plants is like a kitten with a roll of toilet paper.

you could also do floating plants

Couldnt be put any better.

I have my mine with plants and driftwood. All he likes to do is chase his tail and my exodon's around.

Salad is served, would you like the vinaigrette or bleu cheese

I just took some tough el'cheapo plastics and encrusted their base with silicon/substrate, little bastard can move'em anywhere and they remain upright and blend in.

i used to do this w/lead weights, cause i couldn't find silicone. i got some and now i'll try that.
