Hello all , Im getting ready to get an baby oscar tomorrow ,I have a 75 gallon need to know what kind of enviroment to provide him right now I have some chunks of flat rock kinda arranged for a hiding place ? does my water relly gotta be perfect ,I have 5 tigerbarbs and 4 zebra dans 1 turtle w/a 2" shell my tank is new has been runing for 2 weeks now Im going to test my water tomorrow. any help would be great.

Well it does have to be cycled. Test your water and if there is ANY ammonia or nitrite then dont add any more fish yet.

If in doubt take it slow, no one has ever had problems from adding fish too slowly, plenty of grief from overstocking too early before the tank cycles properly.

I would also re-consider your combination of fish.. the turtle is very messy in the tank and likely to eat the smaller fish. The Oscar will chow down the danios sooner or later as well.

Cheers

Ian

Congrats on your choice of fish. Oscars are very personable and will become a long term pet with proper care.

Decor is up to you. They will dig up any plants, so make sure they're weighted down well. Some drift wood and slate rocks would work well.

Another thing, make sure your tank has plenty of filtration (even overkill is recommended), Oscars are a very messy fish.
