Osphronemus goramy and Silver Aro compatibility question

I recently moved my 3 1/2 inch Giant goramy from my growout tank into my 55 gallon with a 7 month old silver aro (10+ inches) .....The goramy picks on the aro with his little mouth. Not much damage is done by the occasional attacks but the aro is acting skittish....I thought the goramy would be the one in danger! The aro has no issues with the two 5 inch Metynnis argenteus or the 7 inch Blood Parrot.....Will they learn to respect each other or should I move the goramy on......I was hoping they would be tank mates in my larger tank to be setup soon.

Any one ever raise them together from this size??? Thanks!!

I've had problems with them before at larger sizes. Ideally you don't want anything that will strees out the aro.

hey chefken.. there is this thread by someone.. i forgot who.. read their giant goramy picked on the aro and blinded the aro.. basically ate both the eyes.. you better give that goramy away.. tc.

Thanks....which do you think will grow faster?? The aro is twice the fish at least...

when i worked at a LFS we had alot of problems with that combo

I have since heard that the goramys get mellower with age and size. I moved it back to my little tank with an albino Polypterus.....they get along just fine. Might try again in three or four months before I have no choice but to move the goramy along. by then the aro should be twice as large....Thanks!!

i've done this combo, a little pushing from GG from time to time but no real damage really.

the GG is around 15" while my silver is 22"
