my female RES(which has succesfully mated with the male RES) recently mated(full tail lock for 30 mins) my 4 year old male common map turtle. what are the chances if any of her having fertile offspring with this guy? i changed phones and sadly no longer have any of the pictures but im sure they were mating. also, what should i do with my female when shes ready to lay? i read somewhere that once they start constantly trying to escape the enclosure there ready. but i can never catch her at the right time. twice now ive been to late and she laid all the eggs in the tank. her first clutch had 13 eggs and shes 7 close to 8 years old.

set up a big rubbermaid filled with sand and put her in there when it gets close to time for her to start laying. if you do that then she will lay the eggs right in the sand and they will be fine.

Hi, congrats you may just hatch a few res/maps hibrids but most likely your going to hatch normal res which is a reason to selebrate anyhow. The hibrid we are talking about here is POSSIBLE and actually quite a few are born in the states every year (dont know where most endup, most likely exported to china, kingsnake rarely has them for sale).

wow!
i had no idea this was a possiblity. but yes, the male RES and map have both interlocked with her this season. she should be close by the end of this month.
