what is an alternative feeder? I dont want to feed goldfish to my FH's

Minnows are not a good option IMO.
If you want to breed feeders s these are good options:
Convicts
Marbled Crayfish AKA Marmokrebs( best crayfish to breed as a food source, they reproduce with out a mate and are all female. They don't eat each other. They are also not aggressive and do not touch fish or plants IME.)

flowerhorn aren't made to eat fish.. only one or two of the parent species are anything other than opportunistic piscivores. And viejas like synspilum (source of the red in ZZRD) and others used in kamfa, are almost exclusive vegetarians in the wild. Most of the species animal diet consists mainly of things like insects and crustaceons.. thank things like worms, crickets, mealworms etc.. or like oddball said... "ghost shrimp, scuds, earthworms, snails, dwarf crayfish, maggots, etc."

Allthough they often do not like the taste of algae pellets, it is also important Imo to have some vegetable in the diet of any amph or vieja fh.. I use goldfish food for this as it is often fortified with more vegetable matter

shrimp arent a good option imo cuz they tend to eat the gravel while catching them,, unless u have sand or a bare bottom tank this can potentailly lead to injury with boisterous feeders.

I'm about to start breeding red cherry shrimp as feeders. Supposedly easy to breed but haven't had any experience with them yet. Going to start with 20 or so in a 20 long and let them do their thing.

try to feed theme super worms and meal worms its because of high protien ...

@ fishfreak, or anyone that knows.... where do you get marbled crayfish? i would love to get some to use as feeders. would be perfect for my FH and my catfish....i wanna know where to get these guys, they seem to be the perfect feeder to breed.
BTW if anyone local to me has any, please PM.

Order marbled cray online here? - http://www.marbledcrayfish.com/ordering
No idea if this is good pricing or not, locally they sell for $10 each so I guess it's ok.

Has anyone heard of the other issue with this cray regarding a crayfish plague they carry and spread? I didn't know anything about it until seeing this article, makes me wonder if UV filters have been tested on it since they say it's not treatable. http://crustahunter.com/en/node/466

I found that my guy likes the meal worms....u say earthworms like the ones you would get at a bait shop?
How about store bought fish....like the cheap fish at the Asian supermarket 1.59 lb...I heard u could fillets chunks?

Reason I bring this up again is because I have some juvie fish that can not eat the mealworms yet....
