I have two 4 or 5inch red bellies and a 5 inch convict in my 35 gallon. I feed them mostley krill and feeder fish or crickets. I wanted to know if i could feed them other live food such as crayfish or crabs. Would they try and eat my fish or no?

Also, what type of live plants do you reccomend i keep, becasue when ever the convict and rbp chase each other they always tear up the plants i place in the tank.
thanks

If they are 4-5inches, they can definitely tear apart a crayfish and a small crab. Some piranhas tend to mess up any plants that you place in your aquarium and others don't bother. It depends on the personality of the piranha.

4-5 inch piranhas is definitely big enough to chop up some crayfishes. Two usually isnt a good number but i had one before they were twin assassins. make sure you add nice busy plants. add black water extract to make sure they feel comfortable which triggers them hiding behind the plants. GOOD BUSY ONES.

also you should mix up the diets. change it up including shrimps, live , and worms. using variety of food will help with the piranhas and their colors.

thanks for the input..i think im going to try out the black water extract...does it effect water quality in anyway?

My friend has 4rbp's the same size, he has also 1 electric blue crawfish which was introduce last month. He has survived so far. He had earlier 2 fiddler crabs in their with the rbp's and they surrvived for weeks until they escaped and his dog ate them.Good boy. :thumbsdow :thumbsdown

Many feeder fish are infected with ich so i would try to stay away from them.

Good eats

uncooked shrimp
fresh beaf heart
Moose heart
deer heart
elk heart

gotta love hunting season

i bought 2 crawfish of friday and so far they ate one of them and have left one crayfish alone because everytime they get near him he bites them...so far he has only manged to snip sum fins....should i keep the aggressive crawfish in the tank or take him out?

Cheap fast growing plants, elodea and caboma are ideal.
