Anyone else here feed New Life Spectrum as the only food for their bichirs (and other fish)?

NLS is the only food any of my fish get. I was just wandering if anyone else uses it exclusively, as part of a mix, or has used it.

I feed NLS, New Life Spectrum, to my Electric Blue Jack Dempseys. The Thera A kind. It was recommended to help fight disease and boost immunity. That along with a bunch of other things.

What kind of NLS do you feed? I have only seen the very small pellets, 1mm, I believe.

My work gets it from the same place we get fish from, which carries most types of NLS. You can get other types online if your LFS isn't carrying it, or ask them to get it in for you (although online would probably be cheaper). I give my 150 and 40 the Large Fish (3mm sinking). The 75 and 40breeder get Jumbo (4.5mm floating, sometimes listed as 5mm). The 40breeder also gets the jumbo Thera A (6mm sinking) to help fill up the axolotls. I also have the water stable algae wafers for the pleco in the 75.

One of the nice things about this food is that since the formula changes so little (if at all) from one variety to another, you cna focus on what siize you need andd whether it floats or sinks, not whether it says goldfish or cichlid on the bottle. It sounds so backwards, but this somehow really does provide the best diet for all these fish.

How big is your EBJD?

Tried it with your polys?

Mine have always taken to it with no problems. They don't have any massive pellets though, so for big ones Hikari Massivore Delite may be needed.

I have fed NLS regular granule thera-a to my poly tank, but have not seen my polys go for it at all. It may be that the granules are too small, so thats why I'm picking up some of the larger sinking at tfp friday to try out... I will update on sat or sunday to tell if they like it or not...

I use to feed that to mf flowerhorn's before seems to be good.

The other issue is substrate. If you have gravel they can fall between the gravel. Sand is ideal (in all my tanks). If you have gravel I would suggest trying to get them to eat out of a bowl. Mine do and it helps keep things clean, helps monitor food intake, and they will come out and so you can tell who is eating.

I have used all types of diets (live only, live and prepared, prepared only, pellet only with a variety of high quality pellets, and NLS exclusively). By far the best is NLS. The colors are better. The growth is better. The health is better. And even breeding is better. I am not expecting everyone to drop what has worked for them for so long and jump to NLS only. But I think since their entire existance is based on our care decisions, it is our obligation to try different things to make sure they are not better than our current methods. I think if people give NLS a shot for an extended period of time (a month or so) they will see improvement.

lol i was thinking the same thing, except for the dempsey too.

My africans get the cichlid formula small pellet, but i will get the big pellet once they get big. I fed the grow formula to fry when i had them, they seemed to like it, but i didnt notice a whole lot of change in their growth rate.
