I recently aquired an young adult op and I am having issues with him not eating. He seems to be interested, he sucks the "nls" in his mouth and then a few seconds later spits it back out. At first I assumed that he was not aclimated and thought that he would start to eat in a day or so but it has now been 4 days he still does the same thing. he is in a 75 gallon tank with 9 other malawi's water perams are ok ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 20 ppm "I have 10 ppm coming out of the tap so 20 is as good as I can keep it". All of the tankmates are good as ever. Any advise would be greatly appreciated thanks for the read.

Where did you get it? Do you know what it was eating? Fish can go a while without eating, it still may not be settled in. I have had fronts take over a week before eating.

I got it at the reef in indianapolis I asked them if they had any idea's I was told that the person that they buy feeds nls. The same food that I have been trying to feed him. His stool is very pale and almost while.

I was just discussing this in another thread

While white/clear feces is typically a sign of IP's, the shedding of a fishes intestinal lining (which is what this is) can also be caused by other conditions, sometimes something even as simple as the fish not being fed enough.

So your fish might not have a internal parasite since it has not been eating. I would continue feeding and clean up whatever he doesnt eat. You might also remove him to a separate tank by himself, this would make him less stressed and reduce the chance of transmitting any parasites to your other fish if that is the case. You really should quarantine any new fish anyways before adding them to your tanks with other fish.

I'm a fan of Prazi-Pro for fish that spit food. Fairly effective, but not a crazy hardcore med like Clout that can nuke your filtration. Separate him to a 10 and give it a shot.

You could also try anti-parasitic food, but I've never had luck with that. If the fish already isn't eating his regular food, then why is he going to take some funny tasting new stuff?

Well I treated it the whole tank since he had been in there already with a tetra product that is all I could find at the time I think I have figured out that he only eats other fish waste. Kinda weird he didnt even want the nls when I soaked in a garlic solution. Just a confused fish, I think that he is not gong to last long since he's not eating proper food he will stay super skinny and keep getting punked on, but only time will tell.
