YaY!! We did it!! And it's sooo clear!!! After tons of research and weeks of thought, I finally told my husband let's just do it!!! Works like a charm!!The pump and the hose were the most expensive things. Pump was on sale for $37 and the hose, all together, was around $20 with hose left over. I say we spend around $75 total. I'm so happy it worked. There is no way we could have saved $200 for a good filtertration system. I think ours works better anyway. Thanks to Everyone here who posted theirs. We would have never been able to figure it out otherwise.:headbang2

That'd be Crayola brand sandbox sand from WalMart. I think one bag cost about $7. We only used two bags in that tank, blue on one side and green on the other. We also have one bag of red sand in our 60 gal. I know some folks say it's not good for the fish, but we have been using it ever since we started keeping fish about a year ago and they seem to love it!! So do we!! hehe:D

We bought the plastic boxes at walmart. Melted holes through the inside box at the top allowing for the water to flow in. Melted one hole in the outside box for the outgoing tube. We used four 1/2 in. tubes inside the boxes for the syphon.
