I thought I'd post a pic of the first DIY tank my husband made for me. Sorry about the water color - had just added the water to the Flourite Substrate. I know it's going to take at least 3 days for it to "settle" enough for me to work in the tank again. Haven't started the cycle so no fish yet - though it will be home to dwarf puffers and plants.

The clear is .95 PETG and the black is HDPE and everything is sealed with silicon and screwed with stainless steel screws (covered in silicon!)

The next attempt is.....about 195 gallons!! The Grey sides are again .25 HDPE with .95 PETG viewing windows. The front is 3/4" bullet proof acrylic. It has a full steel external bracing (just in case) and the steel table that my husband welded is open to hold the canister and tubing. Plus the feet have little levelers so we can be sure the tank is good. In the pic we still need to add the bottom, seal the metal with primer and try the first water test!!

Don't know if we are going semi-aggresive or community with the 195 -waiting to see how it goes.

On the 195 gallon, it seems like the 6 .5 inch (I think) pins would put a lot of pressure on those six points of the floor IMO....

I believe those would go right through any hardwood floor, and may damage other surfaces, but thats just my outlook. Besides that, the tank looks great.

The pins are going to have feet of wood blocks once the tank is moved to the final home after construction. I'm not overly concerned about it since the floor in our shop is 2" concrete.

Just to keep y'all updated. The bottom leaked a bit during the first test so ... rip out silicone, wait to dry. :(

Did you know it takes over 2 hours with a garden hose to fill a 195 gal?!

Second water test - must've broken a seal when maneuvering the tank the left side has a slow leak. had to let it slow drain to identify the trouble spot. More silicone, wait to dry. :(

Now we have a business project that'll sideline us for a week. :swear: I guess it's not so bad since we've placed our Big Als' order and are awaiting the media, etc. for the Fluval FX5 that will be the primary filter.

UGH!! Then we still have to cycle before I can get the fish!!

that first tank is beautiful tho, really. people here are always going for "bigger is better" tanks, and altho that is awesome, a small, peaceful tank is wonderful too. i LOVE dwarf puffers, and i'm sure that the tranquility of that tank will be well worth it. love the design!
