Hi, Everyone --
My husband and I got a flowerhorn last weekend. I'd wanted one for a long time but until a couple weeks ago, I did not realize that a store about an hour and a half from us actually had a fairly big selection of them. SO, we went and found one we liked.
We have many other tanks, but this is our first flowerhorn. I'm actually attached to him, "Roscoe", already... Crazy, but maybe some of you understand!
I'd say he's a little smaller than a business card right now. These pictures are from last weekend, and he's already grown I believe. And his body shape has changed some, too. I'm planning to take pictures of him weekly so after time I can appreciate how much he's changed.
Hopefully we picked a decent one but I have to say, reading this board I saw a $2 flowerhorn and a $6 flowerhorn that I'd have probably come home with if the store had them (and with some money left over, too). Oh well... Given that the only other store I saw with them in stock had what I thought were ugly ones and they were $1,200/each (this was over the winter), I'm going to try and not be too envious (was totally tickled with him before seeing these other fish here!).
The store told us to feed Roscoe this OSI Flowerhorn Pellet food, which we are giving him but I have a feeling (based on how inexpensive that food is) that there may be better staple foods to consider. I'd love to hear what you all would recommend.
Thanks for looking at Roscoe!
