I bought this house as a Foreclosed home.It wasnt/isnt in the best shape but we are fixing it up little by little.
So please excuse the basement..its the last thing we are going to finish.

1st: picture you can see our 75g water troll and the 125g water tank/used bleach holder.
the very small blue container and 10 parts water to 1 part bleach.
the two tall white canisters: ! is to take the bleach out of the water and send the used dead bleach to the 125g water tank/used bleach holder.
the other is a water softener.

2nd Picture is just a hose that comes out of the RO unit across the ceiling to the other side of my house so that we can make a constant water change.
but i might take it out of the RO system because the water that comes out of the RO unit is a ph of lower then 6..while the water that comes out of the tap is 7.6.

3rd. just a small 2 and a half gallon tank that holds the RO water going to my fridge..we also put in another 3 and a half gallon tank under our sink with its own spout on the sink for instant purified water.

4th. Front picture of the water system..You can see th RO unit hanging in the back...

5th. This is where we will be putting the indoor, clear front, pond.
stingrays, catfish and other cool things.

Congratulations on your 'new' house.

The previous home I lived in had a similar setup. In that house I had a cistern as my water source. The larger blue tank was the pressure tank, made by Welltrol, that is used to 'hold' water under pressure so the pump doesn't cycle to frequently. The small blue tank, with a pump on top, was the chlorine/bleach injector that injected bleach into the incoming water, which was then stored in the huge white tank. This allowed enough contact time for the bleach to disinfect the 'raw' water. I did not have a water softener because rainwater is usually soft.

I am almost sure the 2 twin tanks in your picture are water softener resin tanks with the square container being your salt container.

The usual problem with buying a foreclosed/repossessed home, is that there is no literature available on existing equipment and appliances. There are a lot of good websites for the private water system owner to learn more about maintenance & care of the system.

Do you know if you have a cistern or well for your water supply? Have you been able to test the water for pH or hardness yet?

Yes, everything you said your old system did..this does.
we have a well for our water but we also have a Cistern too.But its is nonfunctional and we hope to have it working by next year.
The house didnt come with this system. We bought it afterward.
I only know a little about what it does. You would have to ask my husband the full details.but as far as i know everything should be perfect.I do know the Ph is 7.6 out of the tap and under 6.0 out of the RO system.
I guess i should have gotten more info from him before i posted this =(
Sorry!

No problem. It was very confusing when I had my first system so I did a lot of reading in order to understand how it worked. Sounds like your pH is good for African cichlids, if that is what you are interested in keeping.

I'd love to be able to have a cistern. Even though they usually cannot be combined with existing potable household systems, at least in Ohio, they are wonderful for outside the home watering uses.

My present house is on a private well system & I have a water softener installed. I bypass the softener & use hard water for my aquariums.

Again, congratulations on the 'new' house and welcome to MFK.

Thanks D.
No AC's for me.I love catfish, i think they are soo cute!
My husband likes the stingrays.

The Cistern will be used for our garden and orchard (we bought a old farm).
Then in 3-5 years we will turn the cistern into a Filtration system for the indoor pond.
Not to hold water but to house the filters to keep down the noise.

Thanks alot,
BD.

Very cool! I got an RO setup but it pales in comparison I need the softener and DI for icing on the cake.
