I noticed that 1 of my baby reds does not always school with the other 3, sometime he will swim with them but other times he seems to hide out. Is this normal or will they inevitably single him out and kill him?

could be both, how long you had them together, are there any size difference? as long as it's eating well should be fine. just keep an eye on it in case of any aggression from its tank mates.

i just got them today so maybe they are just adjusting to the tank, they are only like 2 inches

Lil soon to overreact then. lol. What size tank do you have? What are you going to be feeding them?

haha, exactly what i was thinking...

i have gotten groups of baby natts before where the "outcast" ended up running the tank, so i'd just let things play out and don't worry unless you see some outright signs of aggression directed towards that fish.

I do agree with Jack.

moreover i'd like to add that I had a similar case in my shoal, there was this little RBP' that always kept himself apart from tha main group and used to hide all the time, he in fact was the last to eat and the one who ate the less in the shoal.

As time passed by he learned to survive and now he became a tough Mo Fo, I guess he must had to become one because he is the littler of the shoal.

Just be sure he counts on a good number of hiding spots and he'll be ok.

Cheers.

i have a 55 gallon, i plan on feeding them a mixture of beef heart and flakes, then live fish about once a week

swap the beef heart for raw shrimp and the flakes for a high quality pellet and you'd have a good start to a healthy diet. beef heart really shouldn't be fed to piranhas since their digestive systems aren't suited for mammalian meat. they will probably eat flakes when they are very small, but usually won't accept them once they get bigger.

i would also advise against feeding live food due to the potential negative impact on your fish, but that's your call.

Yeah, my reds eat cichlid gold and massivore delite as well as a combination of shrimp, talipia fillet, blood worm, silverside, krill and crickets. Got a darn freezer full of frozen shrimp and talipia in baggies and they've decided they're on a pellet and bloodworm diet all of a sudden? I end up having to remove the shrimp and fish. I swear they're doing it just to smite me

DUDE I FELL THE SAME WAY I HAVE 7 P'S AND THERE ALL OVER 6INCHS. AND THEY R HARD TO GET EATING ON A REG. I FED THEM LIVE 3 4 TIMES A WEEK ONCE DURING THAT ITS A MOUSE, AND THE REST ITS LIVE BIG GOLD FISH. AND 2WICE A MONTH THEY EAT BEEF HEART AND SHRIMP. BUT STILL THEY REALLY HAVENT GROWEN CAN SOMEONE HELP?
